A little bit about me
I am a dynamic engineer driven by the challenges and diversities of the civil engineering industry and in particular the precast concrete industry. My career as Civil Engineer started in 1999 with The Aveng Group and I completed 18 years of service with Aveng Infraset, the precast manufacturing company within the group. I matriculated from Dr E.G. Jansen High School in 1997 and after being awarded a bursary from the then called Grinaker, I completed my B-Tech Civil Engineering (Construction Management) in 2003 at the Tshwane University of Technology. At the same time, I finished my BSc ICEM (International Civil Engineering Management) degree at the Hanze University in the Netherlands. In 2015 I registered as a professional with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
I was appointed as an Engineer in training beginning of 2002 and was placed into a training program for young and upcoming professionals within The Aveng Group which ran over a period of 4 years. In 2005 I was promoted to the position of Product Engineer, a position I held for 4 years. The position of Technical Manager for the Infrastructure Division in the Infraset business unit of Aveng Manufacturing followed in 2010.
In this position I was responsible for all technical facets for the division and I in that period received an accolade for the design of the large, 13 ton, 4.7m x 3.0m culverts used on the stacker reclaimer tunnels for the Tweefontein mine. These culverts, being some of the largest precast units manufactured locally in factory conditions to date, have been widely exposed in industry publications such as the Mining, Precast, IMIESA, Industrial Mining, Specifile and Construction Review magazines. The culverts also won an award at the 2016 Concrete Manufacturing Association’s awards for excellence.
When I left the Aveng group, I was employed as the Business Development Manager where my portfolio had further matured with the responsibility of finding new sustainable growth for the company both in developing and acquisition of new products and business opportunities that would complement the current company demographics.
From 2010 to 2012 I served as the President of the CMA for the Pipes division, during which Infraset received numerous awards not only from CMA but also from Fulton, SAICE and other leading industry associations. I was also the representative for Infraset at the CMA, SABS, IMESA, SAICE, SARF and CESA.
I have in the last year focused my energy and personal development on my consulting expertise and have been involved in various projects and developments across all aspects of Civil Engineering.
To stay abreast of the latest technology I regularly attend courses and conferences locally and abroad and have built valuable relationships with members of the American Concrete Pipe Association, the most recent one when I attended the World of Concrete in Las Vegas.
My driving force lies in clearly ascertaining the requirements of my clients and developing modern, innovative, cost effective solutions to these challenges.
